Playstation 3

Sony was slightly late releasing its next generation gaming console. Microsoft was the first to release a next gen console in December 2005 with the Xbox 360 and then Nintendo launched their fun filled Wii in December 2006. Was it worth the wait for the Playstation 3?!

The Playstation 3 console is much more than just a gaming system. It has multi-media features which make the PS3 a versatile home entertainment system. It has features such as Internet access, video chat, digital photo viewing and digital audio and video and a blu ray player.

One of the main selling points of the Playstation 3 is its Blu-ray drive. This will allow you to play HD movies and Blu-ray movies on from your PS3. The playstation 3 also supports CD-roms, CD-RW, DVD, DVD-ROM, DVD-r and DVD+R formats.

The PlayStation 3 features the much-vaunted Cell processor, which will runat 3.2GHz, giving the whole system 2 teraflops of overall performance. It will sport 256MB XDR main RAM at 3.2GHz, and it will have 256MB of GDDR VRAiM at 700MHz.

The PlayStation 3 is backward compatible with PlayStation and PlayStation 2 games, which means you’ll be able to play all your old games without keeping all the old systems. The console has slots for Memory Stick Duo, an SD slot and a Compact Flash memory slot. It includes a hard disc drive, which lets you to save your games and download content from the Internet.

The PS3 has built in Wi-Fi and you will constantly be connected to "Playstation Home". PlayStation Home is a free-to-download community service which you will always be connected to. Users can create an avatar character for their PlayStation 3 system. This avatar get's its own apartment, which can be adorned by items players can receive in several achievements. In the future the service will also expand, allowing players to have more sorts of clothing, as well as hold pets. Home will be a Second Life like experience and will allow gamers everywhere to interact in a virtual world. Home will also act as a meeting place of sorts for players who want to play multiplayer games on the PlayStation 3.

All in all the Playstation 3 is a good over all console. Maybe it is more expensive than other next gen consoles, but the Blu-ray player is a very interesting feature and this is what puts it above other consoles. If you wanted to buy a Blu-ray player, it would cost you maybes two or three times what you will pay for a Playstation 3 console.
